FBL800-00 5G Description
Core Purpose
The FBL800-00 5G LoRaWAN Base Station is designed to collect data from large numbers of IoT sensors and deliver that information to cloud platforms. It acts as the communication bridge between LoRaWAN field devices and central monitoring systems.
Devices such as smart meters, environmental sensors, or disaster monitoring equipment can send data to the gateway using the LoRaWAN protocol. The gateway then forwards this data through Ethernet, Wi-Fi, 4G, or 5G networks so it can be processed and analyzed remotely.
This architecture allows organizations to build wide-area IoT networks that connect many remote sensors with minimal infrastructure.
Connectivity and Communication
The gateway supports several backhaul communication methods, including Ethernet, Wi-Fi, 4G, and 5G connectivity. This flexibility allows the device to operate in a wide range of deployment environments, from fixed infrastructure networks to locations where only cellular connectivity is available.
For local wireless communication, the device uses the LoRaWAN protocol (Class A and Class C) to interact with field sensors. This protocol enables long-range and low-power communication, which is particularly useful for distributed IoT systems where devices must operate for long periods with minimal energy consumption.
Wi-Fi connectivity based on IEEE 802.11 b/g/n is also available for local access and wireless management. This allows operators to configure or maintain the gateway without direct wired connections.
LoRa Communication Capability
The gateway uses a multi-channel LoRaWAN RF chip that enables communication with numerous IoT nodes simultaneously. In urban environments, the LoRa network can support communication distances of up to 9 km at SF12, allowing large coverage areas from a single gateway.
The system operates across multiple global LoRa frequency bands, including EU, US, and Asia-Pacific ranges. This ensures compatibility with regional LoRaWAN deployments and simplifies global IoT deployments.
The gateway also supports adaptive link rates and half-duplex communication, enabling efficient network performance even when many devices are transmitting data.
System Management and Device Operation
Once powered on, the device automatically enters transmission mode and begins communicating with connected IoT nodes. This simplifies installation and allows systems to begin operating immediately after deployment.
The gateway includes centralized management capabilities that allow operators to configure, monitor, and maintain devices remotely. This simplifies large-scale IoT deployments where many gateways may be installed across different locations.
Wi-Fi-based wireless management and firmware upgrades also allow maintenance tasks to be performed without physical access to the device.
Power and Environmental Suitability
The gateway is designed for outdoor industrial environments. It uses an IP67 enclosure with an ABS housing and metal heat-dissipation base to protect internal electronics from dust, moisture, and harsh environmental conditions.
Power can be supplied through standard AC input (100–277V AC) or through PoE+ (802.3af/at), providing flexibility in installation environments such as poles, towers, or building exteriors.
The device operates within a wide temperature range of −35°C to +75°C, making it suitable for deployments in extreme climates.
Interface and Hardware Platform
The gateway includes several physical interfaces to support installation and system integration. A 10/100M Ethernet port allows wired network connectivity and can be configured for WAN or LAN operation.
The device also includes a Type-C serial port, SIM card slot for cellular connectivity, and optional TF storage cards (8GB or 32GB). Indicator LEDs provide quick visual status information for power, connectivity, LoRa activity, and wireless operation.
Internally, the gateway uses an industrial 32-bit communication processor with 32MB flash and 128MB DDR2 memory, supporting stable operation and continuous data transmission across large IoT networks.
