GL520MG Description
Core Purpose
The GL520MG is a compact asset tracker designed for long-term deployment where frequent charging is not practical. It combines location tracking with environmental awareness, making it suitable for assets that need both position visibility and condition monitoring. Its waterproof design also makes it better suited to outdoor and harsher operating environments.
Connectivity and Communication
This device uses LTE Cat M1/NB2 with 2G fallback, which helps it stay connected across a wider range of network conditions. It supports TCP, UDP, and SMS reporting, allowing position and status updates to be sent in standard ways used in IoT deployments. It also supports scheduled reporting, wakeup reports, and buffer storage for up to 10,000 messages, which helps preserve event history when connectivity is interrupted.
Positioning and Tracking
The GL520MG includes an internal GNSS receiver with stated autonomous accuracy of under 2.5 meters. This allows it to support regular location reporting for mobile and fixed assets. Geo-fences add another practical layer by letting the device report movement into or out of defined areas.
Monitoring and Detection Capabilities
The device includes motion detection through an internal 3-axis accelerometer, so it can respond when an asset starts moving. It also has internal temperature and light sensors, which support temperature monitoring and tamper detection. These functions make the tracker useful not only for location, but also for knowing when conditions change or when the device may have been disturbed.
Power and Environmental Suitability
A key strength of this model is battery life. The datasheet states up to 5 years standby with one GNSS report per day, or up to 7 years with one Cell ID report per day, using 3 CR123A lithium batteries rated at 1400 mAh. Combined with its waterproof construction and -20°C to +60°C operating range, it is built for long-running use in outdoor and temperature-sensitive environments.
Expansion and Mounting
The GL520MG supports several mounting options, including an optional magnetic mounting version for simpler installation. Optional BLE 5.0 support can also extend its use with accessories such as the WTH301 BLE temperature and humidity sensor shown in the datasheet accessories section. This gives the device more flexibility for monitoring-focused deployments.
