UR32 Description
Core Purpose
The UR32 is an industrial cellular router built to provide stable internet connectivity in remote and distributed environments. It combines 4G LTE connectivity with wired and optional wireless interfaces to link field equipment to central systems. The device is designed for IoT and M2M deployments where reliable communication is essential. Its dual SIM capability allows automatic switching between carriers, helping maintain continuous network access when coverage changes.
Connectivity and Communication
The router supports 4G LTE (CAT4) with fallback to 3G and GSM networks. This allows deployments across regions with varying cellular infrastructure. Dual SIM enables automatic failover between operators to reduce downtime. In addition to cellular, the UR32 includes two 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports, configurable as WAN or LAN. Optional Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) allows it to operate as an access point or client, and it can serve as a backup WAN connection. It supports standard industrial networking protocols such as SNMP, MQTT, TR069, OSPF, and Modbus TCP/RTU bridging. This enables remote monitoring, centralized management, and integration with existing industrial systems. Secure communication is supported through VPN technologies including IPsec, OpenVPN, GRE, L2TP, PPTP, DMVPN, and WireGuard. These options allow encrypted data transmission across public networks.
Monitoring and Reliability
The UR32 includes automated WAN failover across Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and dual SIM cellular connections. This ensures the device can automatically switch to an available link when one connection is lost. A built-in hardware watchdog automatically recovers the system in case of abnormal operation. VRRP support further enhances network redundancy in distributed deployments. Security features include firewall protection, access control, filtering, MAC binding, DMZ configuration, and multi-level user authentication through Radius, TACACS+, LDAP, or local authentication.
Expansion and I/O Support
The router provides one RS232 serial port, with optional RS485 hardware support. It supports transparent TCP/UDP communication as well as Modbus server, client, and gateway functions, allowing integration with PLCs, RTUs, and industrial controllers. It also includes one digital input and one digital output with galvanic isolation. This allows basic event detection and control signaling in industrial environments. Optional modules include Wi-Fi, GPS positioning, and PoE output (802.3af/at) on LAN ports for powering connected devices such as IP cameras.
Power and Environmental Suitability
The UR32 operates on a wide 9–48 VDC input range, supporting diverse industrial power systems. Typical power consumption is low at approximately 1.9 W (non-PoE mode). Its metal housing is rated IP30 and supports DIN rail, wall, or desktop mounting. The device operates in temperatures from –40°C to +70°C, making it suitable for harsh industrial environments.
