UC100 Description
Core Purpose
The UC100 IoT Controller is designed to connect Modbus RS485 devices to a LoRaWAN network, allowing remote monitoring and control of industrial equipment. It acts as a bridge between field devices and cloud platforms so that operational data can be collected and commands can be sent remotely.
By supporting communication with up to 32 Modbus RTU devices, the controller can gather data from multiple meters, sensors, or controllers and transmit it through long-range wireless connectivity. This makes it suitable for distributed infrastructure where wired networking is not practical.
Connectivity and Communication
The device communicates using LoRaWAN, a long-range, low-power wireless technology designed for IoT deployments. In open environments, the connection can reach up to 15 km line-of-sight, enabling monitoring of devices located far from the central system.
It also supports Modbus RTU and transparent transmission, allowing commands from the server to pass directly to RS485 devices. This means existing Modbus equipment can be integrated into LoRaWAN systems without major changes to their configuration.
In addition, the controller supports Milesight D2D communication, which allows devices to exchange data directly without routing through a LoRaWAN gateway. This enables faster responses for control scenarios that require low latency.
Monitoring and Control Logic
UC100 supports configurable trigger conditions and actions. These triggers allow the device to automatically react to events such as threshold changes or received commands. The device can perform actions locally, which helps maintain operations even when the network connection is temporarily unavailable.
To improve reliability, the controller stores up to 1000 historical records locally. If communication is interrupted, the stored data can be retransmitted once the connection is restored, preventing information loss.
An embedded watchdog further enhances stability by monitoring the system and restarting processes if abnormal behavior occurs. This helps ensure continuous operation in long-term deployments.
Power and Environmental Suitability
The controller supports flexible power input, operating from 5–24 VDC via terminal block or 5 VDC through a Type-C port. This allows integration into different installation environments and power infrastructures.
Its compact housing measures 70 × 45 × 13 mm, making it suitable for installations where space is limited. The device operates in temperatures ranging from –20 °C to 60 °C and supports humidity levels up to 95% (non-condensing), allowing stable operation in typical indoor industrial environments.
Interface and Integration
UC100 includes one RS485 interface with a 3.5 mm terminal block, enabling connection to Modbus devices such as meters, controllers, and sensors. Communication speeds range from 1200 to 115200 bps, providing flexibility for integration with different industrial equipment.
A Type-C configuration port allows device setup and configuration, while a system LED provides quick visual status feedback. The device can be managed through Milesight IoT Cloud, enabling remote monitoring and control through web or mobile interfaces.
