UC501 Description
Core Purpose
The UC501 is a multi-interface controller designed to collect data from field sensors and connected equipment. It acts as a central device that gathers measurements, processes them locally, and transmits the information to remote systems. This makes it useful for monitoring environments where multiple types of sensors must operate together.
By combining sensor connectivity with long-distance wireless communication, the device simplifies remote monitoring deployments. It allows operators to collect data from distributed equipment without needing complex on-site infrastructure.
Connectivity and Communication
The UC501 communicates through LoRaWAN, enabling long-range wireless transmission for remote monitoring environments. Under ideal conditions, LoRaWAN networks can support communication distances of up to 15 km line-of-sight, allowing devices to connect across large outdoor areas.
The controller works with standard LoRaWAN gateways and network servers, making it compatible with existing IoT network deployments. It can also be managed through cloud platforms such as the Milesight IoT Cloud for centralized device monitoring and data visualization.
Data Acquisition and Sensor Integration
The UC501 is built for flexible sensor integration. It supports several common industrial interfaces including GPIO digital I/O, RS232/RS485 serial communication, analog inputs, and SDI-12 sensors. These interfaces allow the controller to connect with a wide variety of environmental sensors and monitoring equipment.
Analog inputs support common industrial signal formats such as 0–10 V or 4–20 mA, which are widely used by measurement instruments. Serial communication options like RS485 also allow integration with industrial devices using protocols such as Modbus RTU.
To protect data reliability, the device can store historical records locally and retransmit them if network communication is temporarily interrupted. This ensures that sensor measurements are not lost during connectivity disruptions.
Power and Environmental Suitability
The UC501 is designed for outdoor and remote environments. The device supports flexible power options including a built-in solar panel, rechargeable battery pack, or external 5–24 VDC supply. These options allow it to operate in locations where continuous power infrastructure may not be available.
For environmental durability, the enclosure provides IP68 protection, meaning it is resistant to dust and water and can withstand harsh outdoor conditions. The operating temperature range of –20°C to 60°C allows reliable operation in both cold and hot climates.
The compact enclosure and M12 industrial connectors also simplify outdoor installation on walls or poles.
Device Configuration and Management
The UC501 is designed to be easy to deploy and configure. Devices can be configured wirelessly through NFC using a mobile app, allowing technicians to adjust settings quickly in the field without connecting cables.
Alternatively, configuration can also be performed through a USB Type-C connection to PC software when deeper configuration or firmware management is required. These options simplify commissioning and reduce installation time during large deployments.
