UG63 Description
Core Purpose
The Milesight UG63 is a compact indoor LoRaWAN gateway designed to connect large numbers of IoT devices to a central network server. It acts as the bridge between wireless LoRaWAN sensors and cloud platforms or application servers.
By forwarding data packets from end nodes to platforms such as The Things Industries, ChirpStack, or AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN, the gateway allows organizations to collect and manage sensor data from a single centralized point.
Its small form factor and simple installation make it suitable for indoor deployments where a full industrial gateway may not be necessary.
Connectivity and Communication
The gateway uses LoRaWAN technology with 8 half-duplex channels, allowing it to handle communications from a large number of devices simultaneously. This design enables the gateway to support more than 2000 LoRaWAN end nodes, making it suitable for dense IoT environments.
For backhaul connectivity, the device supports Ethernet networking through a 10/100 Mbps RJ45 port, ensuring stable communication with network servers. An optional 4G LTE cellular interface can also be used as an alternative connection path when wired networking is not available.
The gateway also provides Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) in access point mode for local device configuration.
Network Integration
UG63 is designed to work with mainstream LoRaWAN network servers. This allows organizations to integrate the gateway into existing IoT platforms without needing proprietary infrastructure.
It can also operate as a supplementary gateway within a larger deployment. In such setups, it helps fill LoRaWAN coverage gaps by forwarding data to a central controller gateway such as other Milesight gateway models.
This approach improves network coverage in buildings or indoor environments where signal blind spots might occur.
Power and Environmental Design
The gateway is designed for low-power operation and flexible installation. Typical power consumption is 1.3 W, with a maximum of 3.1 W, which allows continuous operation without significant energy demand.
Power can be supplied through several options including 5 V via USB-C, 5–12 V DC through a terminal block, or PoE input using an optional PoE splitter.
The device operates within a temperature range of –20°C to +50°C, allowing reliable use in indoor environments such as offices, industrial buildings, or parking facilities.
Physical Design and Installation
UG63 has a compact circular design with dimensions of 115 × 21 mm (antenna excluded). This compact size makes it easy to install in locations where space is limited.
It supports desktop placement, wall mounting, or ceiling installation, giving flexibility for different deployment scenarios. The enclosure has an IP30 rating, suitable for protected indoor environments.
