UG65 Description
Core Purpose
The UG65 is an indoor LoRaWAN gateway designed to connect a large number of IoT sensors to a centralized network. It acts as a bridge between low-power LoRaWAN devices and IP networks, allowing data from sensors to reach cloud platforms or network servers.
The gateway supports 8 LoRaWAN channels and can manage connections from more than 2000 sensor nodes, making it suitable for dense IoT deployments in buildings and campuses. According to the datasheet, communication can reach up to 15 km line-of-sight or around 2 km in urban environments, enabling wide coverage with a single gateway.
Connectivity and Communication
UG65 provides multiple backhaul connectivity options to keep IoT networks online. The device includes Gigabit Ethernet, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and an optional 4G/3G cellular connection, allowing flexible deployment across different network environments. If one connection fails, another can be used as a backup path for continuous operation.
The gateway can integrate with well-known LoRaWAN network servers such as The Things Stack and ChirpStack, while also providing a built-in network server for smaller deployments. Data can be integrated into external platforms using MQTT(s) and HTTP(s) APIs, making it easier to connect the gateway with IoT platforms or enterprise applications.
Monitoring and Management
UG65 includes tools that help operators manage and monitor IoT networks remotely. It supports centralized device management through platforms such as Milesight IoT Cloud and DeviceHub, allowing administrators to configure gateways and monitor their status from a central interface.
The gateway can also analyze the radio noise level in the environment and present it visually. This helps installers select optimal deployment locations and ensure reliable LoRaWAN coverage when building large sensor networks.
Power and Environmental Suitability
The device is designed for industrial environments and long-term deployments. It operates on 9–24 V DC power or 802.3af PoE, allowing flexible installation depending on infrastructure availability.
UG65 features an IP65 enclosure, providing protection against dust and water ingress for installations under eaves or semi-outdoor locations. It supports an operating temperature range of –40 °C to +70 °C, enabling reliable operation in demanding environmental conditions.
Expansion and System Hardware
Internally, the gateway uses a quad-core 1.5 GHz ARM Cortex-A53 processor, supported by 512 MB DDR4 RAM and 8 GB eMMC storage. This hardware platform allows the device to process LoRaWAN traffic from thousands of nodes while running local services such as the embedded network server.
The gateway includes 2 internal LoRa antennas and one external N-female antenna connector, allowing flexible RF configuration for indoor coverage. A Gigabit RJ45 port, Type-C console port, and LED indicators provide access for installation and maintenance.
