People counting uses a camera with AI software to track how many individuals cross a line or enter and exit a defined area. A shopping centre uses people counting to see peak footfall by hour and day, and to report maximum occupancy compliance for fire safety purposes.
Camera-based people counting uses object detection to identify and track individual persons in the frame. It handles overlapping individuals and partial occlusion better than older methods like infrared beam counters.
- Bidirectional counting – separate in and out counts produce a net occupancy figure
- Regional counting – up to 4 independent detection zones per camera in advanced models
- Statistical reports – hourly, daily, and weekly totals for retail analysis or workspace planning
- HVAC integration – real-time zone occupancy from people counting can trigger HVAC adjustments automatically
