Jamming detection is a feature in GPS trackers and vehicle telematics devices that identifies when the GNSS or cellular signal is being deliberately interfered with. Criminals use cheap signal jammers – sold online – to prevent vehicle trackers from reporting position during a theft.
A device with jamming detection monitors signal quality continuously. When it drops to zero abruptly across all satellites simultaneously, that pattern is consistent with active jamming rather than a tunnel or building. The device generates a jamming alert using any available communication path.
- GNSS jamming – blocks satellite signals so the tracker cannot calculate a position
- Cellular jamming – prevents the device from transmitting to the fleet platform
- Alert generation – device logs the event locally and transmits it as soon as signal recovers
- Used in – high-value vehicle protection, cargo theft prevention, and fleet security monitoring
