An MDVR is a ruggedised recording box mounted inside a commercial vehicle. It records simultaneously from multiple cameras – front, rear, sides, and interior – to internal storage. A 32-seat coach operator fits an MDVR to cover the front road view, the driver area, both door areas, and the passenger saloon from a single unit.
MDVRs are chosen over single dash cameras when a vehicle needs more than two camera angles or has compliance requirements for multi-view coverage. Connected models send event clips over 4G automatically.
- Channel count – typically 4 to 8 camera inputs from a single recorder
- Storage – 256 GB to 2 TB on microSD cards or removable HDD/SSD
- Vibration resistance – industrial-grade design for buses, HGVs, and off-road plant
- 4G connectivity – event-triggered clips uploaded to the fleet platform automatically
- vs video telematics unit – an MDVR is primarily a storage device; a video telematics unit is primarily a connected data endpoint
