Overview
The SG50 is an outdoor solar-powered LoRaWAN gateway designed for locations where power infrastructure is limited or unavailable. It combines solar energy, built-in batteries, and long-range wireless communication to connect large numbers of IoT devices in remote environments.
Because the gateway can operate using solar energy with backup battery storage, it is suitable for installations where running electrical lines is difficult. This design enables independent network deployment in remote or off-grid locations such as industrial sites, forests, and resource extraction areas.
The gateway connects IoT sensors through LoRaWAN technology, supporting up to 8 channels for simultaneous device communication. This allows the SG50 to handle connections from thousands of LoRaWAN nodes within the network.
For backhaul connectivity, the device includes 4G LTE (Cat 1) and GSM cellular communication, enabling it to transmit collected sensor data to remote servers. This cellular capability allows the gateway to operate independently without requiring wired internet infrastructure.
The SG50 also supports Wi-Fi configuration mode, making it easier to configure and manage the device locally during installation.
The device is compatible with remote management platforms, allowing administrators to configure, monitor, and maintain gateway deployments from a centralised system. This is particularly useful for remote installations where physical access may be limited.
A built-in GPS module assists with deployment management and location identification. Knowing the gateway location helps operators maintain accurate records of distributed IoT infrastructure.
Power management is a core design feature of the SG50. The gateway can be powered using solar panels or external 12–24V DC input, allowing flexible deployment depending on the available power sources.
A 3.6V 25000mAh backup battery system provides additional reliability by keeping the gateway operational when solar power is temporarily unavailable. According to the datasheet, the device can continue operating for up to 4 days without sunlight under typical network conditions.
The gateway also features low power consumption, typically around 0.8 W, which helps maximise battery life and improves the effectiveness of solar energy systems.
The SG50 is designed for outdoor industrial environments. Its IP67-rated enclosure protects internal electronics from dust and water ingress, making it suitable for harsh operating conditions.
The device operates in temperatures ranging from –30 °C to +70 °C, enabling reliable operation in both cold and hot climates. The metal cast aluminium housing provides structural durability while maintaining manageable weight for pole or wall installations.
The compact enclosure measuring 250 × 157.5 × 46 mm allows flexible mounting options, including pole or wall deployment.

Applications
Remote oil and gas facilities often operate in isolated areas with limited infrastructure. The SG50 enables long-range LoRaWAN connectivity for monitoring sensors such as pressure, flow, or environmental detectors while relying on solar power to operate independently.
Mining sites require large-area monitoring systems to track environmental conditions, equipment status, and safety sensors. The SG50 gateway can connect numerous LoRaWAN devices across the site and transmit data through cellular networks for centralised monitoring.
Forestry projects and environmental monitoring systems frequently operate far from power grids. The solar-powered design and long-range wireless coverage allow the SG50 to collect data from distributed sensors measuring weather conditions, soil health, or ecosystem changes.
Industrial operations located in remote regions often require reliable monitoring without wired network infrastructure. The SG50 allows operators to deploy IoT sensors across large sites while using cellular connectivity to deliver data to remote management platforms.
Utilities and infrastructure projects can use the SG50 to gather data from field sensors across wide geographic areas. The device’s solar power capability and weather-resistant housing make it suitable for long-term outdoor deployments where maintenance access is limited.
