Overview
The WR220LEU Lite is a 4G LTE Cat-4 industrial cellular router built to keep critical operations connected. It runs on an OpenWRT (Linux-based) operating system and is designed for deployments where reliability and low cost both matter.
The router uses 4G LTE Cat-4 as its primary connection, with fallback to 3G and 2G networks when LTE is unavailable. Two SIM card slots let it automatically switch between providers if a signal weakens, a data limit is hit, or a connection drops. This keeps the link alive without any manual action.
Four Ethernet ports – one WAN and three LAN – let the device connect to an upstream network and serve multiple local devices at the same time. Wi-Fi 4 (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) supports up to 45 simultaneous wireless connections on the 2.4 GHz band. The router can act as an access point for local devices or as a station connecting to an upstream Wi-Fi network.
The WR220LEU Lite supports OpenVPN, IPsec, GRE, PPTP, and L2TP – giving network administrators multiple options to build secure tunnels between sites. A built-in firewall handles NAT, IP/MAC filtering, DMZ, and DDoS protection including SYN flood and SSH attack prevention.
The device is managed through a web interface, SSH, or SMS commands. It connects to the Nebulink cloud management platform, which allows remote configuration, firmware updates, and monitoring across multiple devices from a single dashboard. FOTA (firmware over the air) keeps devices updated automatically.
A 4-pin Power and I/O connector provides one digital input and one open collector output. These can trigger event-based reporting to an MQTT or TCP server when defined conditions are met – useful for monitoring external equipment states.
The housing is anodised aluminium with an IP30 rating. It operates between –30 °C and 75 °C and accepts 8–32 V DC input with reverse polarity and surge protection. Mounting options include DIN rail, wall, and surface installation. It meets CE, RED, and RoHS compliance standards (certification in progress).

Applications
Buses, trams, and other public transport vehicles need a connection that holds even as they move between cell towers and coverage zones. The dual SIM failover keeps onboard systems – ticketing, passenger Wi-Fi, CCTV – online without interruption. The wide voltage range (8–32 V DC) fits standard vehicle power supplies.
Smart surveillance setups often run cameras and analytics systems that need a fast, stable uplink. The WR220LEU Lite provides that via LTE Cat-4 and supports secure VPN tunnels to back-end servers. The I/O connector can trigger alerts based on external sensor states, adding another layer of event-driven monitoring.
Retail locations – especially those without fixed broadband or in temporary deployments – can use the WR220LEU Lite as their primary network link. The Wi-Fi hotspot capability with captive portal support works well for customer-facing wireless access. Nebulink allows IT teams to manage multiple store routers remotely from one place.
Small and mid-sized businesses that need a reliable cellular backup or primary connection benefit from the router's low power consumption, compact form factor, and broad VPN support. Static and dynamic routing options, VLAN separation, and load balancing over multiple WAN connections give IT administrators meaningful control over network behaviour.
The Modbus TCP client support and MQTT gateway functionality make the WR220LEU Lite a practical choice for connecting industrial machines to monitoring platforms. Equipment data can be read via Modbus and forwarded to a cloud server through MQTT – without needing a separate protocol converter.
