Construction telematics means fitting GPS trackers and sensors to the vehicles and machinery on a construction site – excavators, dumpers, HGVs, generators, and site containers – so a manager can see the live location and status of every asset from a single dashboard, from any device.
Construction fleets are complex to manage: multiple sites, subcontracted vehicles, off-road plant that cannot be tracked by road GPS alone, and high theft exposure. Telematics data on a construction fleet typically includes:
- Live location – shows every asset on a map with ignition status and last movement
- Engine hours – tracks actual machine usage for service scheduling, more accurate than calendar-based intervals
- Idle time – identifies machinery running with no load, a direct fuel cost and emissions issue
- Geofencing – alerts when plant leaves a site boundary outside of authorised hours
- Harsh events – braking, acceleration, and impact data for driver coaching
- Video telematics – dash cameras on HGVs and vans for incident evidence and insurance protection
